BBV Water Receives Funding - Let’s Turn Some Dirt
On August 1, 2013 your water system board of directors received news that the Rural Development funds that the board applied for has been approved. Thanks to the hard work and dedication of Doug Roehl, Director of Business and Community Programs, and Tim Potts, Rapid City Area Director, the system also received some additional grant dollars.
The overall funding for your system looks like this:
Rural Utility Services Loan $2,917,000
Rural Utility Services Grant $2,000,000
State of SD Consolidated Grant $1,500,000
NRCS Equip (2013) $ 750,000
NRCS Equip (2014) $ 342,000
Local Contributions (signups) $ 264,000
Total Project Funds $7,773,000
The board of directors have authorized engineer Matt Oedekoven to move forward with final design on the systems well, booster stations, reservoir, and pipeline. The goal is to begin drilling the well this fall with the majority of the systems infrastructure under construction by Spring.
Water User Easements Needed ASAP
With funding in place and construction approaching the board would like to remind users that we need your signed and notarized easement ASAP. Without the easement the contractor cannot install your meter pit or service line on your property. Therefore, no easement = no water.
Additional User Information
Now that the system has received their funding and is in final design the sign-up fee for additional users wanting to get onto the water system is $1,800 plus the cost of construction to provide water to the structure. This typically includes the cost of the meter pit, tapping fee, and service line. Any additional users requesting water service will be reviewed by the systems engineer to verify adequate water quantity and pressure is available.
Public Meeting – October 2015
Bear Butte Valley Water, Inc. members are invited to a public meeting in October 2015 to share recent project progress. The meeting will be held at the Sturgis Community Center. There will be time allotted to assist members with their easements. Check back soon for specific date and time
Well Construction
Construction of the well for Bear Butte Valley was completed in September 2014 Weston Engineering with great results. The well extends 3623 ft. down to the Madison Aquifer and was tested with excellent results for both water quality and production capability.
